OpenDNS Helps Keeps Kids Safe Online; New Adult Site Blocking Service Powered by St. Bernard

St. Bernard’s iGuard URL Database Powers OpenDNS Adult Site Blocking

Jun 11, 2007 — SAN FRANCISCO and SAN DIEGO, Calif. – June 11, 2007 – OpenDNS, the award-winning DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced it is empowering parents and those responsible for kids’ Internet experience to block access to Web sites with adult content unsuitable for children’s eyes. A growing amount of inappropriate content on the Web, combined with an increasing amount of time kids’ spend surfing, makes the need for a free service like OpenDNS adult site blocking a necessity for families, schools, libraries and other places where kids access the Internet. OpenDNS is committed to continually improving the Internet experience for people worldwide.

According to a 2006 AOL/Leger Survey, the majority of parents, 54 percent, say their children spend more time on the Internet this year than they did last year. Nearly a third of kids surveyed, 31 percent, between the ages of eight and 12 spend one to two hours online per day. Another 7 percent spend more than three hours online per day.

The new OpenDNS adult site blocking service is made possible with help from St. Bernard, a global provider of comprehensive security solutions for small and midsize businesses. St. Bernard will block all objectionable URLs for OpenDNS users via iGuard™, the industry’s only 100 percent human-reviewed database.

“Adult site blocking is one of the most requested features among our customers, and we are thrilled to partner with St. Bernard to deliver such a practical, useful service,” said OpenDNS CEO David Ulevitch. “The Internet houses lots of content not suitable for kids and OpenDNS is committed to helping our customers navigate around it and to making the Internet a safer place.”

”We are extremely pleased and excited to partner with OpenDNS on this new service,” said Vince Rossi, president and CEO of St. Bernard. “Helping to keep kids safe online has been a longstanding commitment of St. Bernard’s, and we look forward to extending our support to the education community through this initiative.”

In addition to blocking adult sites, parents and others responsible for kids’ Internet safety can use a free OpenDNS account to block phishing Web sites trying to steal personal information, and any additional Web sites, such as MySpace.com and other social networks, of their choice. Additionally, using OpenDNS will make their Internet faster and more reliable. OpenDNS is the world’s largest, fastest-growing DNS service.
