Sunsweet Growers Switches to OpenDNS for Safer, Faster, Smarter Internet

Aug 6, 2007

World’s Largest Dried Fruit Handler Improves Internet Experience, Reduces Support Calls with OpenDNS

SAN FRANCISCO – OpenDNS, the award-winning DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced Sunsweet Growers Inc. has switched to OpenDNS from the DNS service it previously got from its Internet Service Provider (ISP). Sunsweet Growers is the world's largest handler of dried tree fruits including cranberries, apricots and plums and employs more than 1,700 during the crop harvest. OpenDNS is the world’s largest, fastest-growing DNS service.

Sunsweet Growers’ network administrators chose to switch to OpenDNS to speed Internet connectivity, block access to unsafe or otherwise inappropriate content and easily manage DNS. Sunsweet Growers uses OpenDNS as its primary provider for all public DNS queries and takes advantage of the option to manage a custom image and message for user errors, correct typos, block adult and phishing sites and collect statistical information to gain insight into opportunities to improve network performance.

“OpenDNS allows us to easily block unwanted sites and provide a safer, more productive environment,” said Terrell Johnson, Network Administrator for Sunsweet Growers. “It has a smart interface that provides granularity of control across multiple connections, and the statistics are easy to use and provide insight into our DNS traffic.”

Sunsweet Growers is using all OpenDNS features, including corporate branding of the OpenDNS Guide, or the page seen when someone on its network attempts to visit a Web site that doesn’t exist or is otherwise not resolving.

“Sunsweet-specific messages provide helpful instructions, which reduce the number of unnecessary support calls,” said Johnson. “Sunsweet leverages the Internet to streamline business processes and requires more than simple address resolution from our DNS provider. Sunsweet switched to OpenDNS to provide a safer, faster and smarter business internet solution.”
