OpenDNS Shares December 2006 PhishTank Statistics

SAN FRANCISCO -- OpenDNS (www.opendns.com), the DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster and smarter for you and everyone using your network, today announced December 2006 statistics for PhishTank (www.phishtank.com), the free, community Web site where anyone can submit, verify, track and share phishing data. During the month of December, the PhishTank community voted more than 94,000 times on more than 20,000 suspected phishes. Also in December, Opera Software announced it is using PhishTank data to protect users of the latest version of its award-winning browser. PhishTank is the only consumer-friendly, anti-phishing effort that publicly shares timely phishing data.

Highlights from the December 2006 PhishTank statistics include:

Total number of votes by the PhishTank community: 94,526

Total number of unique, suspected phishing scams reported: 20,352

Country hosting the most phishing sites: United States

Percentage of phishing sites hosted in United States: 23

Median time it took for the PhishTank community to verify phishes: 15 hours, 16 minutes
