I was in Iraq for 16 months. The longest deployment of any army unit since the start of the war. About halfway through the deployment we were given wireless Internet access. It worked great except that as more people used it, it became slower and slower. I did my research and found out that if I plugged in a different DNS server address that the problems went away completely. The servers they had for us to use were simply overloaded and poorly maintained.

I told my wife, who was home with our children, about all the great features that OpenDNS had to offer and she managed to get our computers set up at home. I managed the account online and blocked the adult, malware, phishing, and gambling categories. I even did the same for my mom, who is a malware magnet."
