I saw "Oops" on Windows. What next?

It is possible to fail all three tests, (http://welcome.opendns.com, http://www.internetbadguys.com and http://www.craigslist.og), and still have OpenDNS configured correctly. If you know that your ISP (internet Service Provider) allows third-party DNS, the most likely explanation for failing our tests is that you are on a proxy through your ISP.

If you are on a proxy, you will not be able to take advantage of our web-based features like shortcuts and typo correction. However, you may still benefit from a speedy and reliable browsing experience.

To check whether you are, indeed, using our resolvers, (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220), please do the following on Windows.

  • Go the Start menu.
  • Choose "Run"
  • Type "cmd" (no quotes).
  • In the terminal window, type "nslookup www.opendns.com." without the quotes. Note: the trailing period is necessary.

The results should look like this:

                   Non-authoritative Answer
                   Name: www.opendns.com
                   Address: 208.67.219.101

If the Server shows resolver1.opendns.com or resolver2.opendns.com, then you are using OpenDNS for DNS.

If the results indicate you are not using our servers, and you have followed our instructions with no success, please contact your ISP to verify whether they allow third-party DNS.
