Configuration: inadyn for OpenDNS

inadyn is a dynamic IP update client (command line) which runs on Windows, with the option of running as a service.

A sample configuration file for inadyn setup to use OpenDNS should look like this. Variables are in italics.

--username opendns_username
--password opendns_password
--alias opendns_label_of_network_to_update
--secure
--dyndns_server_name updates.opendns.com
--dyndns_server_url /nic/update?

The configuration inadyn uses can be specified on the command file with the --input_file option. It's best to use an absolute path so that the file is found no matter where inadyn was executed from.

For example:

    inadyn --input_file c:/inadyn/inadyn.conf

Additionally inadyn can be run with the --verbose 5 option to give you detailed output of what happened during each update attempt. This can help in debugging.

It's best to run inadyn manually to make sure it's working properly before setting it up as a service.

We suggest you use DNS-O-Matic, a new, free service from OpenDNS. DNS-O-Matic gives you an easy way to distribute your dynamic IP changes to multiple services with a single update. Keep dynamic DNS hostnames and OpenDNS updated at the same time.
