Why is irs.gov blocked when it's not in my list of blocked domains?

We've heard from a few customers with domain blocking turned on that IRS.gov (the website for the Internal Revenue Service in the United States) is blocked for them, even though it's not in their list of blocked domains. Upon investigation, irs.gov points to akamai.net (a content delivery network), so if you block akamai.net you will also block irs.gov (among many other sites). So please consider unintended consequences when you block domains.
