myip.opendns.com : diagnostic tool for confirming IP address making DNS queries
In most networks, DNS queries (UDP) and web requests go out on the same public IP address.
In some networks, the requests go out via different routes and IP addresses. When this happens, network-based features such as adult site blocking and statistics will not work if the network is using the HTTP IP address
Here's how to determine which IP address is making the DNS requests to OpenDNS.
nslookup myip.opendns.com.
or
dig myip.opendns.com
or
host myip.opendns.com
If you are using OpenDNS, the response will include the IP address our servers "see" when you make the request. Compare that to your Network IP address in the OpenDNS Dashboard.
If you are not using OpenDNS, the response will indicate that.
