How Do I Block A Category?

Category blocking disables viewing of sites that have been tagged under certain categories in our database. These tags are voted on in Domain Tagging in Community section of OpenDNS.

 How to block a category:

1. Make sure you are using OpenDNS. (Get Started)

2. Sign in or create a free account.

3. Add a network to your account in the Dashboard.

(If you already have a network in your OpenDNS account, you may skip this step.)

Add a network screenshot

4. Navigate to the Settings page of your OpenDNS Dashboard. Under Content Filtering you can select your Content Filtering Level.

(There are six settings for category blocking, high to none and custom. High to none have already specified presets. Custom allows for selective blocking of multiple unrelated categories.)

5. Hit Apply and Wait 3 minutes for your preferences to be pushed to all servers.

You may then test by attempting to visit the site you blocked. Make sure any local caches (browser, computer, router, firewall, etc.) are cleared before you test. Review this checklist if you think it's not working.
