Common Updater Error Messages

The updater warns me that I have not set up Dynamic IP updates on my OpenDNS dashboard, but I made sure the box has been checked and is enabled - what's wrong?

Make sure your credentials (username, password, etc.) and your network label match up exactly with the Dashboard. The network label parameter is required if you maintain multiple networks on your Dashboard. Do not send the update over DNS-O-Matic if you haven't set up an account there, because the network parameter is used for the service name on DNS-O-Matic.

The Updater keeps saying that an update is available, can I stop it?

Since build 187, the Updater does tell you about new versions only once until it is restrated. You cannot stop the version notifications, because it is important that you keep up with the latest version to make things easier for both yourself, and for us. We will probably have 2 different versions, one stable and a beta version which you can tell the Updater to install for you. That way you will only be informed about stable and very well tested updates.

The program doesn't open and tells me that the required WINHTTP.DLL wasn't found, what's that?

WinHTTP is part of Windows since Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) (except Datacenter Server) or newer. It's an important part of those systems and should not be missing. Please use Windows Update or your installation/recovery CD/DVD to install it on your system. The OpenDNS Updater does require Windows 2000 or newer to work, this means that it won't work on Windows ME or older Windows OS's.

What does the error "Sorry, you need Administrator privileges to change the settings!" mean?

This basically means that you don't have write access to the setting files in C:ProgramDataOpenDNS Upater on Windows Vista, C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataOpenDNSUpdater on pre-Vista. Try re-installing the Updater twice , the 1st time the program will be removed. The 2nd time the current installer will1st install and then remove all OpenDNS Updater related files from your system. After that you can normally install the OpenDNS Updater again and everything should be working properly.
