Getting Started FAQ
Setting up OpenDNS for the first time? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to get you up and running, quickly and easily:
How can I be sure I'm using OpenDNS successfully?
You can verify you're using OpenDNS by visiting http://welcome.opendns.com. If you've configured your router or modem properly, but this page tells you that you're not using OpenDNS, we suggest you configure your computer(s) instead. You'll get the same benefits, and if you have a small number of computers on your network, it's relatively easy. In some cases, users have found success in configuring both their router and computers. If you're setting up OpenDNS as a forwarder on a server, http://welcome.opendns.com will indicate for you as well whether or not you're successfully using OpenDNS.
I'm told my network already exists. What should I do?
If you receive this message when trying to add a network please contact support. Have the email address and all account information ready and create a ticket here.
I set up Web content filtering, but the domains I specified aren't being blocked. What should I do?
First clear the cache in your browser, then flush your local resolver. See http://www.opendns.com/support/article/209. If that doesn't work, read through the checklist here: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/143.
I've selected "Enable Stats and Logs" for my network, but they aren't working. What should I do?
It can take up to 24 hours for the statistics information about your account to be populated - after you enable. If it's been more than 24 hours since you enabled stats and logs, contact support for assistance.
I'm seeing Update Client error messages. How do I resolve them?
See http://www.opendns.com/support/article/248 for the most common error messages and how to resolve them.
