Setting Security Features
OpenDNS Basic, VIP and Enterprise allow administrators to manage the security features applied to their network. Specific security features vary across the OpenDNS solutions, for example, OpenDNS Enterprise provides more features than OpenDNS Basic or VIP.
By selecting the setting and clicking Apply, administrators can activate the security features detailed in the following table.
| Security Feature | Benefits |
|---|---|
| Malware / Botnet Protection (Basic and VIP) | Automatically protects OpenDNS end-users from Internet-scale botnets such as Conficker. The level of protection varies based on the OpenDNS product that is implemented. |
| Phishing Protection | Automatically blocks OpenDNS end-users from visiting known websites that attempt to fraudulently solicit personal and financial information. The database of phishing websites is managed by OpenDNS and updated through PhishTank. |
| Suspicious Responses | Automatically filters domains that resolve to an internal IP address, as this usually indicates suspicious intent because local IP addresses are not assigned to Internet domains. |
| Botnet Protection (Enterprise Only) | Enterprise-grade botnet protection; database is fed from multiple sources, including 3rd party security firms. |
| Malware Protection (Enterprise Only) | Enterprise-grade malware protection; database is fed from multiple sources, including 3rd party security firms. |
