Managing Users in an Enterprise Organization
An OpenDNS Administrator will need to manage users within an organization when performing the following functions:
- Granting of temporary access to blocked Web content using OpenDNS Block Page Bypass. Bypass permissions can be granted on a per user basis or with a time-limited code.
- Delegating administration of networks. A user must be defined within an organization before given administrative privileges over a network.
- Granting access to network usage reports.
- Allowing users to change OpenDNS settings for a network.
Adding a user to an organization creates an OpenDNS account for that user, which allows them to log in to OpenDNS, access the network(s) assigned to them, and, if they choose, create additional networks such as home and personal.
To add users to an organization, log in to the Dashboard and go to the Settings tab. In the Settings for: box, select the Organization Name to which you want to add a user. The Plan Info page appears by default.
From the options on the left, select Users. You can create an entire user account with Add a New User or use Invite an Existing User to send an email invitation to join the organization. If you create a new user, you can specify all user/account details immediately, whereas you will need to wait for a user invited by email to confirm their invitation before setting their user-account details.
To remove a user from an organization, log in to the Dashboard and go to the Users page and scroll to the Users in This Organization section. Select the checkbox next to the user's email address and click Remove.
Because users may have personal and other networks or be members of other organizations, you cannot delete a user from OpenDNS but only remove them from the organizations for which you are an OpenDNS Administrator or Super User.
Once a user is registered within an organization, the OpenDNS Administrator can assign Delegated Administration network permissions to that user. A user must be associated with each network to which you are going to grant rights.
A user may also be granted the Super User privilege, which allows them to manage other users and all networks within an organization. To grant a user with the Super User privilege, log in to the Dashboard and go to the Users page, scroll to Users in This Organization and click on their Email Address. Select Enable Super User and click Save.
You can grant a user the Super User privilege and allow them to delegate themselves as administrator over the networks in your organization.
