How do I Disable OpenDNS Pop-Ups?

This is a common misperception. OpenDNS does not produce or control Web browser pop-ups of any kind (pop-unders, overs, etc.). OpenDNS does not facilitate or enable adware, spyware or malware, which are the culprits behind . But, we understand how this misperception comes to pass and we will explain here.

First, OpenDNS is a service provider; it is not installed software. When the OpenDNS service is configured on a network, set to block certain websites and provide security from malware and botnets, it does just that.

Now, if someone on that network visits a website that creates pop-ups, but the pop-ups are blocked, you will see the OpenDNS block page in that pop-up. This creates the perception that the pop-up is created by OpenDNS, but the opposite is true.

OpenDNS prevents pop-up windows from reaching a malicious destination, displaying blocked content or further infecting your network and computers.

To remove the malicious software that is generating the pop-ups (that OpenDNS blocks from doing more harm), please use a spyware removal program from a reputable source.
